I typically design my CNC projects using Vcarve Desktop with a #Shapeoko XXL CNC router. When I started out looking to see what CNC router or DIY #CNC router I would like to use I saw many options out there. I looked at Bobs CNC Router E4. CNC 3018 pro, X Carve CNC, mini CNC machines along with desktop CNC machines. I eventually settled on the Shapeoko XXL. I was impressed with Carbide 3d. The CNC software that comes with the Shapeoko is very user friendly. You can download it for free on the Carbide 3d website so it lets you practice before actually buying the machine. You can use Carbide Create to design your projects and use Carbide Motion to use when cutting out your projects. After a few months I made the switch to #Vcarve Desktop and I could not be happier. Carbide create is good for beginners but Vcarve Desktop opens up a wide variety of tool paths such as photo carve and a more in depth Vcarve.
