CMS’ Cronus 5 axis CNC machining center is shown with its Universal Holding Fixture (UHF) under CNC control carrying out the trimming, drilling and countersinking operations, including the paint removal and conductivity testing process, on a composite wing’s surface with its incorporated metal bushings, which have been covered with paint following a finishing operation. The 5 axis machining processes on two different wing surfaces can be carried out in two zones independent of each other at the same time.
In this 5 axis CNC machining example, when the drilling process takes place it can occur concurrent to the machining process, not requiring pre-scanning or manipulation of the part program data, while corresponding perfectly with the real world which it finds, resulting in a hole perfectly orthogonal to the wing’s surface, with a countersink at the correct depth and with no problem of potential blow out on the under side, a process which makes any differences from the real world data to the theoretical CAD/CAM data irrelevant.
This is just one example of cutting edge 5 axis CNC machining equipment available from CMS North America. Come to our website to learn why we’re the number one source for 5 axis CNC machining technology.
