Dry machining steel with DIY CNC mill

Performance testing our machine building system. Hank is a medium sized CNC mill with self fabricated linear rails, and rack and pinion drive system. In this test we are dry machining 5mm low carbon steel in one pass. Trochoidal milling at 50mm/s, 10% stepover. Using a 3 flute 6mm bit at 30.000RPM. Router is a lowcost Makita RT0700C. PS: always use trochoidal milling, and never use a vacuum cleaner to extract hot steel chips

Machine controlled with Arduino Uno and GRBL

UPDATE, 22. April 2021: The plain bearings on machined alu rails was not very successful (too much friction and wear) and the machine did not live long. We had more success with bearings rolling on the machined surfaces on later machines https://github.com/fellesverkstedet/fabricatable-machines/wiki/Fabricatable-axes
