CNC routers require maintenance like any other piece of equipment to perform it’s best. CNC routers with linear rails and slide bearings require oiling to ensure that the machine can easily jog around the work area. The specialty oils traditionally used in this application are often hard to find locally and can be quite expensive when having the oil shipped. For this machine oiling I’m using Lucas gun oil. Gun oil is easily found, cheap, and is made to cling to and protect metal components while reducing wear. So far, it seems to do a good job protecting and lubricating my Shapeoko Pro CNC Router. Overtime, I’ll provide updates as to how the oil is performing.
