Introducing the Simba chair designed for CNC machines and the better.furniture movement

Hello everyone, I’m Ajay and I am a lazy geek! 🙂

Over the last 6 years, I’ve been developing an easy-to-follow path to financial independence by utilizing home robots. And while I’m still somewhere in the middle of the journey, I decided to share early what I have so far with a limited group of like-minded supporters.

Today I quit my 8-5 corporate job as a web developer and decided to go all-in with my furniture design.

Here is a list of priorities that define my designs:

Designed for small CNC machines – my goal is to fit all of my designs in 60×60 cm tiles (2 by 2 ft) so that Shapeoko, X-Carve, WorkBee, and other home-based CNC machines can handle them and the amount of material waste is minimal.

Plywood thickness-agnostic – It doesn’t matter how thick the plywood is. In fact, you won’t even need to measure or know your plywood thickness at any point.

Sustainability – my designs use natural materials and are very durable. I do my best to make my furniture maintainable, so it can last generations, hence leave a smaller footprint on the environment.

Scalable documented processes – I challenge myself to improve the fabrication process wherever it is possible. I have never done a chair without any improvements to the process. Every package will come with easy to follow PDF, video guides, and checklists that even a child can follow.

Unseen Curves Concept – I tend to add unseen curves to each design so that they become eye-stoppers which makes selling them a breeze. This technique is widely used in automotive design to make cars always look new, modern, and desirable. I want to treat my furniture as car brands treat their range of models – my designs will evolve along with modern tastes and trends.

I’m also working on a better.furniture platform that is designed to market the furniture that our robots fabricate and distribute orders fairly among the nearest makers. Kind of an Uber for CNC machines! But first, I need a community of nerds like me! 😉
