Beginners *MUST KNOW* – Drilling Holes On A CNC Router, Router For Beginners, How To Tips & Tricks

This video teaches you how to drill holes on a CNC router using peck drilling and spiral drilling. Plunge drilling on a CNC router is not recommended unless you have an up-cutting router bit with bottom-cutting blades.

See below for links to “drilling” endmills for CNC routers

Using the spiral method, you will need to change your ‘plunge’ feed to equal the feed rate setting. For example, if your feed rate is set to 25ipm and plunge is set to 10ipm. You will want the plunge to be set to 25imp.

Woodworking – How to drill with a CNC router.

Drilling on a CNC router is good to do to avoid secondary operations. Knowing the in’s and out’s and the risks are important to save your router bits and damage to your beautiful work.

Drilling with a flat-bottom tool is always risky. Follow the rules below and you should do very well

Tips for drilling on a cnc router:
→ A router bit IS NOT a drill bit
→ Do use peck drilling cycles
→ Use short pecks
→ Set the cycle to do FULL retract
→ Make sure your router bit end is beveled to the center
→ Do not plunge drill (cut full hole in one shot) unless it is a very shallow hole
→ NEVER USE A DOWN BIT OR STRAIGHT BIT FOR DRILLING
→ Use spiral drilling whenever possible to allow good chip ejection. It is the safest technique for drilling with your router
