Here is some great info on cutting titanium incredibly fast!
Material = 6AL-4V Titanium
Tool = 1/2″ Dia x 13 FLT IMCO CARBIDE EndMill
SFM = 400
FPT = .0063
Radial = .025
Note: I was having some fun testing these 13 flt tools. My work horse in titanium is the M525 IMCO CARBIDE Cutter. I like to go full depth with a .050 step over. SFM Range is 360 – 460 and Chip load is .0052 – Of course sometimes I jump to a 7, 9 or 13 FLTS tool… As I go up in FLTS, I decrease the radial width of Cut because of the reduction is FLT Pocket Clearance… Meaning, there is so many flutes on the endmill… The chips have to be thin or they will gull.
This video was to show it was possible and we did run the tool for 60 minutes solid and it still did not break. I do suggest staying in my standard range though for better tool life.
