Restoring a 24 year old CNC machine…

I spent 120+ hours restoring a 1996 Fadal VMC15, a compact vertical machining center (CNC) so that I can use it to make my knives! This machine features a full enclosure and a larger tool-changer than my previous machine, so it is a nice addition! The only problem: the machine had been used to machine Graphite for its entire life which meant that clean-up was a huge job!

In this video I document the process of restoring and fixing the machine, as well as performing some upgrades! I also talk about why I would choose to restore an older machine rather than buying new… The main reason being that this option allowed me to save a LOT of money!
